Tips for eating healthy while you’re at work

Being confined to a 9 to 5 job might not allow you to have the time of your life, but it definitely pays the bills. There are loads of remote jobs one can take these days, and you should consider one if you’ve always found it uncomfortable to relate to other people or just don’t like spending a lot of time at the office as a principle.

Many people do not have the freedom to opt for a different job, though, for some reasons. For these individuals, we’ve put together a short list of tips that they might benefit from if they still want to keep being healthy through the food they put in their mouths, even if they spend more than half of their life at a desk.

Stay hydrated

Keeping hydrated can be a challenge for many of us. If you’re in the middle of solving a problem and it can take you to as many as two to three hours, you might find it impossible to concentrate on anything else. Always keep a small bottle of water on your desk to make sure that you see it and take a sip even when you’re in the middle of a conference call.

Believe it or not, one of the most important causes of obesity is lack of hydration. Your stomach is fuller when you drink plenty of water, and so you won’t end up ordering anything unhealthy or gobble up the first fast-food meal you set your eyes on when you’re on your lunch break.

Pack your meals

Millions of people choose to eat the food they prepare at home instead of wasting their money on meals they can buy when they’re at work. On the one hand, meal prepping is far more cost-effective, and it helps you keep organized. On the other, you are entirely aware of what you put in your mouth and of the way you have cooked your food.

It’s virtually impossible to get food poisoning when you’re the cook. So, as long as you pack your meals properly and keep them in the office fridge, you have nothing to worry about. Besides, stop being embarrassed because you’re going to bring your own food — it’s likely that many of your colleagues are doing it already.

If you find that your food containers are boring or you hate keeping them in your regular bag, just buy one of the many eye-catching lunch boxes for men, women, or even kids available out there.

Learn to say ‘No’

You’re probably not begging your colleagues to give you a slice of their pizza when they order in, at least not if you’ve just been hired and you don’t know them all that well. So the chances of being offered that slice instead of you asking for it are rather high. If you know that you’re trying to restrict the number of calories you consume in a day, you simply must learn to say no and stick to your own goals and meal plan.
